NUERBURG, Germany – Officials at Germany’s Nuerburgring say a racer has died from health issues during a German VLN Endurance Racing Championship event on Saturday.
Wolf Silvester was behind the wheel of his Opel Astra OPC when he appeared to lose control of his car. When safety officials approached his car they found him slumped over in his seat and unresponsive.
Attempts to revive the 55-year-old driver were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead. The remainder of the race was cancelled.
Silvester won the 10-race endurance series title in 2006 and 2010.
