CORONA, Calif. — The 2013 Lucas Oil Drag Boat Series blasts into the New Year with expanded TV coverage, a new rulebook, increased safety and a 10 national championship race series.
First and foremost is expanded TV coverage airing on CBS, CBS Sports Network, NBC Sports Network, SPEED and the MAVTV American Real network. Up from 30 minutes last year, each Lucas Oil Championship event will run a full hour allowing fans to peek behind the scenes as the drivers prepare to control some of the most powerful and dangerous machines on the planet.
In addition to the professional show, which consists of Top Fuel Hydro, Top Alcohol Hydro, Top Alcohol Flat and Pro Mod running the 1,000 feet course, there are four sportsman classes ranging from 8.00 to 11.00 second and three bracket (dial-in) classes in the quarter mile.
“Drag boat racing is booming,” said Lucas Oil Executive Vice President Bob Patison. “The fan base is expanding rapidly and more and more teams are competing nationally. Now our expanded ‘on air’ presence allows us to dig deeper and explain the techniques and technology behind a sport that easily rivals the thrills and thunder of Drag Racing on land, but with lake shores and river banks adding to the excitement.”
