Short Track Roundup: Father & Son Winners

The father and son duo of Doug and Cody Manmiller each won features on the same night Saturday at Pennsylvania’s Grandview Speedway.

Doug Manmiller grabbed his 30th career modified victory, while Cody Manmiller earned his first sportsman triumph.

It was the second time in Grandview’s 60-year history a father and son have won on the same night. In 1998, Randy and Mike Bailey each won a modified feature.

• Todd Kluever was a big deal on the NASCAR stage when he landed a Camping World Truck Series ride with Roush Fenway Racing in 2005.

On Saturday night, he earned his first midget triumph, when he topped the Badger Midget Series feature at Sycamore Speedway in Illinois.

After making his final NASCAR start in 2009, Kluever slipped away from the racing scene for a while but eventually did some IMCA racing before making his midget debut last year.

Roahrig won the Grand Slam for Outlaw Late Models on the asphalt at Plymouth Speedway.

The $19,000 triumph was Dietrich’s second in as many nights on the Central Pennsylvania sprint car circuit, as Dietrich triumphed at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday.

• A.J. Flick was the star of the show in Western Pennsylvania Speedweek for 410 winged sprint cars.

Flick won all three races that were run, claiming victories at Lernerville Speedway, Sharon Speedway and Tri-City Raceway Park. Two events were rained out.

• At only 11 years and three months old, Paulie Hartwig III became the youngest driver to ever win a modified feature at Pennsylvania’s Mahoning Valley Speedway.

“It feels really neat to be the youngest driver to win in a modified here at Mahoning,” Hartwig said. “Two years ago, I did the same thing with the Rookie Hobby Stocks.”

• Australian sprint car racer Lynton Jeffrey won his first feature of the season Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway and broke a 14-year-old track record in the process.

Jeffrey completed 20 laps in five minutes and 25.2 seconds, erasing Justin Henderson’s 14-year-old record.
