NASCAR At North Wilkesboro Is Still A ‘Bucket-List’ Item

There’s a new billboard stationed off Highway 115, about 15 minutes from the walls of North Wilkesboro Speedway, that sports an advertisement for the May 19 NASCAR All-Star Race at the track. 

“Rooted here,” the sign reads, in all of its vintage-themed glory. 

The advertisement is newly erected, reminding passersby of what’s coming to the 75-year-old facility on May 18-19 and calling them home to the hills of Wilkes County, N.C., to watch two of NASCAR’s national series race around the revitalized speedway for a second straight year. 

Last season, NASCAR made a triumphant return to the iconic short track, sanctioning the first Cup Series race there since 1996 — the year the speedway closed. 

Kyle Larson put on a clinic in both the Truck Series and Cup Series events in 2023, resulting in the California native taking two elevator rides to North Wilkesboro’s unique victory lane. 

Even the crowd energy was lightning in a bottle.
