INSIDER: Waltz — Is The Racing World Out Of Kilter?

HARRISBURG, N.C. – Is it just me, or is the racing world a little out of kilter?

After all, Tony Stewart has parked his sprint car in favor of a Top Fuel dragster; two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch is a longshot to make the NASCAR playoffs; a pair of winged sprint car series are successfully touring the country; and a guy named Sting Ray flipped an Indy car at Iowa Speedway.

What’s next, a NASCAR EV race? Oh, I almost forgot, NASCAR officials unveiled the sanctioning body’s version of an electric race car in early July.

Amid all of the craziness and chaos, I was just thinking …

■ Corner workers and push-truck drivers are greatly under appreciated.

■ Real racers don’t go on vacation during the middle of the season.

■ Has the one-off Chili Bowl midget chassis been regulated to the scrap pile?

■ Oh great, NASCAR is venturing into the Fortnite Ecosystem.

■ At what temperature is it too hot to fish?

■ How does the demise of Stewart-Haas Racing impact the Ford sprint car engine?

■ Oct. 25 will mark 100 years since AAA racer Tommy Milton won the opening event at Charlotte Speedway, a high-banked, 1.25-mile board track in Pineville, N.C.

■ Did someone put a merry-go-round in the lobby of McLaren’s Indy car shop?
