INSIDER: Ohio Sprint Speedweek Lives

When the Kubota High Limit Series purchased the All Star Circuit of Champions last fall, many sprint car teams and race tracks in and around Ohio were left to deal with the uncertainties of a changing motorsports landscape.

There were plenty of unknowns, including concerns about the future of Ohio Sprint Speedweek.

Widely recognized as the original Speedweek concept for dirt-track racing, Ohio Sprint Speedweek began in 1983 under the All Star banner. All Star board members Bert and Bridgette Emick, Jean Lynch and Eldora Speedway owner Earl Baltes came up with the idea for a week of racing to showcase the state’s drivers, teams and tracks.

The list of Ohio Sprint Speedweek winners is filled with National Sprint Car Hall of Fame inductees and drivers who will someday be enshrined, including Steve Kinser, Bobby Allen, Jack Hewitt, Keith Kaufmann, Bobby Davis Jr., Jimmy Sills, Doug Wolfgang, Rick Ferkel, Dave Blaney, Stevie Smith, Tim Shaffer, Terry McCarl, Danny Smith, Sammy Swindell, Frankie Kerr, Kevin Huntley, Dale Blaney, Kenny Jacobs, Joey Saldana, Jac Haudenschild, Chad Kemenah, Paul McMahan, Jason Johnson and more.
