INDIANAPOLIS – There were many questions as we entered 2024 following a turbulent offseason.
The big news was the arrival of High Limit as a full-time series meaning there would be two national touring series for winged sprint cars.
USAC was going to do what USAC does, although every time a driver such as Emerson Axsom decides to put a wing on, or Daison Pursley dips a toe in the winged water, the reaction is disproportionate to the overall impact of such a move.
The prevailing concern centered on the viability of two major traveling winged series. Could fans tolerate this brave new world and were there enough of them to go around?
On the surface the answer seems to be, yes. The fact that some flexibility of movement has been allowed has certainly helped matters from a fan perspective.
Still, there is a clear limit to how much a team can take on over the course of a year and we are probably discovering where the saturation point is for fans.
The basic economics that undergirds each group is not totally clear, and I am not arguing that it should be.
