INSIDER: Crowd Pleaser — Andrew Bogusz

For Michigan racer Andrew Bogusz, the Maxima Racing Oils Must See Racing Midwest Lights Series has paid dividends. The 18-year-old has found success in the series while honing his skills in anticipation of moving up the racing ladder.

The winged asphalt sprint car series utilizes cost-effective 602 crate engines designed to give young drivers laps at a variety of unique speedways in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan. Bogusz is reaping all the rewards the series has to offer.

After years in quarter midgets and karts, Bogusz was looking at different options to resume his racing career prior to the 2022 season.

“I was getting older and had gotten my driver’s license,” explained Bogusz. “My dad (Terry) asked me what our next step should be. My first thought was we’d go buy a street stock and race it locally at my home track, Flat Rock Speedway, where my dad raced.

“My dad started looking around. He investigated Legend Cars and dwarf cars. One of the things we found was the Must See Racing 602 crate sprint cars. My dad called Jim Hanks and he explained this feeder series he started in 2020. They were in their second season.

“My dad found a used car,” Bogusz continued. “It was the car Joey Wyckoff had won the championship with in 2021. We brought it home and my mom about had an anxiety attack.

“We made the decision to buy a crate car because of how much media exposure the series was getting. Also, the speed these cars display is impressive and the cost to run one of these isn’t too bad. We had been doing cost analysis with other different types of cars I could have run in the area, and none could match the Must See Racing Midwest Lights.”
