INSIDER: Breaking Down The Knoxville Nationals

KNOXVILLE, Iowa — It’s been an interesting season in the world of winged sprint car racing with a pair (World of Outlaws and High Limit Racing) of national touring series and more big races than ever.

But heading into the 63rd running of the NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals at Iowa’s Knoxville Raceway, there are a half-dozen drivers who have established themselves as favorites to win sprint car racing’s premier event.

As of July 28, 103 drivers had entered the four-day, World of Outlaws-sanctioned spectacular that culminates with Saturday night’s $190,000-to-win main event at the legendary half-mile track.

We’ve identified six favorites as well as several contenders, numerous challengers and the best of the rest heading into the $1,153,000 week of racing.
