At the very least, you’ve got to cringe at the timing.

Just as action heats up for the 108th Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Team Penske is reeling from the first post-race IndyCar Series disqualification in decades.

The crux of the issue is that Roger Penske owns all three entities: the track, the team and the series.

Naturally, this issue centers on the misuse of technology. IndyCar has used a push-to-pass system for several years, where drivers push a button to gain about 50 horsepower by software-controlled adjustments to the engine control module. The use of the system is limited to defined periods and controlled by a global on/off switch in race control.
