Alex Palou was nearly untouchable for the entirety of the NTT IndyCar Series season as he secured his second title in the penultimate race at Oregon’s Portland Int’l Raceway.
Wheeling the No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, Palou took over the points lead in May after winning at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course. The 26-year-old never relinquished the point for the rest of the season.
Palou surged in the summer months with three straight victories on the streets of Detroit, Wisconsin’s Road America and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
Teammate and six-time IndyCar champion Scott Dixon rallied late in the season with three wins in the last four races. He finished 78 points behind Palou.
Entering his third season of open-wheel racing after an illustrious career in Australian Supercars, Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin placed third in the standings. His season was highlighted by a win at Alabama’s Barber Motorsports Park.
American Josef Newgarden gave team owner Roger Penske a 19th Indianapolis 500 victory in May after Newgarden out-dueled last year’s winner Marcus Ericsson.
