What’s Next For Simon Pagenaud?

With Tuesday’s news of Felix Rosenqvist joining Meyer Shank Racing next season alongside IMSA standout Tom Blomqvist, it meant the end of Simon Pagenaud’s term with the organization.

Pagenaud, who competed for the team over the last two seasons aboard the No. 60 Honda, has been sidelined since early July after a wicked crash during practice at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

With the 2019 Indianapolis 500 winner not medically cleared to compete due to what Pagenaud described as “lingering concussion-like symptoms,” his season promptly ended on August 28 after missing four consecutive races.

In a social media post on Tuesday, Pagenaud bid farewell to the MSR team.

“I would like to wish MSR all the best, and thank Mike Shank, Jim Meyer and the whole team for the valuable experiences I have gathered through the last two years.”

In his two seasons at MSR, the 2016 NTT IndyCar Series champion had a best finish of second in last year’s Indianapolis Grand Prix and tallied seven top-10 finishes.

Previously, Pagenaud raced for Team Penske for seven seasons, racking up 11 victories and 27 podium finishes.

Without a clear vision on what’s next in his career, Pagenaud is remaining committed to healing as the season concludes this weekend at California’s WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

“For now my goal is to fully focus on myself and recuperating,” Pagenaud said on social media. “It is a slow process and I will continue to work with the doctors and do what is necessary to get my health back to 100%.”
