Scott Dixon’s 23rd season in the NTT IndyCar Series produced a second-place finish in the standings, but kept his consecutive seasons winning streak alive.
Wheeling his familiar No. 9 Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing, Dixon was consistent all season as he racked up 16 top-10 finishes in the 17-race schedule, including a stretch of 14 straight finishes of seventh or better.
While his consistency was stout, “The Iceman” was still winless entering the second race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course in August.
Dixon, however, extended his streak of seasons with at least one win to 19 years in a row, as he held off a hard-charging Graham Rahal during the closing laps at the 2.439-mile course.
The 43-year-old went back-to-back, winning again at Illinois’ World Wide Technology Raceway in dominant fashion as he led 123 of the 260 laps.
Despite substantially cutting into teammate Alex Palou’s championship lead after two consecutive wins, a third-place finish at Oregon’s Portland Int’l Raceway in September closed the door on a potential record-tying seventh title. Palou won the race at Portland.
Dixon, however, capped off the season on a high note at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in California as he won his third race of the year to solidify his second-place finish in the points.
Next year will be Dixon’s 24th season in the IndyCar Series.
