MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Alexander Rossi was cleared by IndyCar Medical Director Dr. Julia Vaizer to return to competition beginning with the Aug. 16-17 Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Ill.
Rossi drives the No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet and sustained a broken right thumb in a crash during practice for the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto on July 19. Because of the fracture, he did not compete in that weekend’s race on the streets of Toronto.
Rossi’s No. 7 Chevrolet crashed into the turn-nine tire barrier during the Friday practice session in a crash that brought out the red flag.
He was also holding his wrist when the AMR Safety Team arrived.
Rossi was trying to save the car until the moment of impact.
Theo Pourchaire of France took over the ride that weekend. He started 26th and finished 14th.
Rossi had surgery in Indianapolis and has recovered to the point where he is cleared to return to action.
