NEWTON, Iowa — Team Penske’s double Iowa pole winner Will Power was the fastest driver in Sunday morning’s split practice session for the Hy-Vee One Step 250 presented by Gatorade — the second race of the Hy-Vee IndyCar Race Weekend at Iowa Speedway.
At the end of the first session, it was Power with the fastest lap, despite a squiggle off Turn 4 late in the 10-minute group.
Power’s best speed was 171.488 mph in the No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet for Team Penske. Augustin Canapino of Juncos Hollinger Racing was second at 169.106 mph followed by Conor Daly’s No. 60 Honda at 168.144 mph, Christian Lundgaard’s No. 45 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Honda at 166.833 mph and Felix Rosenqvist’s 164.889 mph in the No. 6 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet.
Saturday’s Hy-Vee Home Front 250 presented by Instacart winner Josef Newgarden of Team Penske was 12th in the 10-minute session as the team already has plenty of confidence in the No. 2 Hitachi Chevrolet.
After the second 10-minute session concluded, Takuma Sato of Chip Ganassi Racing was the fastest out of that group at 170.865 mph in the No. 11 Honda. Helio Castroneves was second in the No. 06 Honda for Meyer Shank Racing at 168.199 mph followed by Marcus Ericsson’s 168.125 mph in the No. 8 Huski Ice Spritz Honda for CGR.
