INDIANAPOLIS – Felix Rosenqvist has been cleared by the IndyCar Medical Team to return to action in the NTT IndyCar Series this weekend at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
Rosenqvist, driver of the No. 7 Arrow McLaren SP entry, has been sidelined since being involved in a major crash during the first race of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix in Detroit, Mich. He crashed on lap 25 in turn six of the 14-turn, 2.35-mile street course, with the nose of his car driving straight into a tire barrier at high speed.
The AMR Safety Team extracted the 29-year-old driver from Sweden from the cockpit. Rosenqvist was put in a neck brace to stabilize his neck and placed in the ambulance on a backboard. He was taken to a local hospital and released the following day after staying overnight for observation.
After the crash, Rosenqvist missed the second race of the Detroit Grand Prix and was replaced by Oliver Askew. He also sat out the REV Group Grand Prix at Road America, where Kevin Magnussen raced in his place.
“Felix and Arrow McLaren SP would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Billows and the IndyCar Medical Team for the exceptional care and treatment they have provided,” the Arrow McLaren SP team said in a statement.
The Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio will take place on Sunday, July 4 at Noon ET on NBC.
