MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Conor Daly has been a part-time race car driver this season. He wants very much to have a full-time gig.
The 32-year-old Indiana native has competed in two NTT IndyCar Series events, including the Indianapolis 500 where he finished 10th. He’s also run a handful of NASCAR Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck Series races this season.
Daly ran both the Xfinity Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Truck Series race at Indianapolis Raceway Park last weekend, and continues to seek opportunities in motorsports.
“It’s a tough sport. We all know how it goes with the finances and the opportunities, but I would love to create a full-time opportunity for myself somewhere,” said Daly, who has made 110 career IndyCar Series starts. “I’m not sure where that is, whether that is IndyCar or not, I don’t know. I am not trying to get away from that world.
“But this world over here (NASCAR) is very exciting and there is a lot of positive momentum that is very noticeable as someone who pays attention to every realm of the sport,” Daly added. “I want to be a race car driver. That is what I want to do. If I can come out and prove myself in more ways than one, that is usually helpful.”
