INDIANAPOLIS — Jamie Chadwick will test an Indy car with Andretti Global following the completion of the Indy NXT by Firestone season, the team announced Wednesday morning.
When she takes to the track on Sept. 30 at Alabama’s Barber Motorsports Park, Chadwick will be the first female Indy NXT race winner in over a decade (Pippa Mann, 2011) to receive an NTT IndyCar Series test.
“I’m incredibly excited to be testing in IndyCar for the first time with Andretti Global at Barber Motorsports Park later this year,” Chadwick said. “I want to say a huge thank you to the team for this opportunity. It is for sure one I am going to relish. The NTT IndyCar Series remains my goal, so I cannot wait to learn as much as possible on that day at one of the most demanding tracks on the calendar.”
The 26-year-old British driver made the move to American open-wheel racing in 2023, joining the Andretti Indy NXT team as the first full-time female driver in the feeder series in 13 years and scoring five top-10 finishes in her rookie season.
Chadwick’s sophomore season with Andretti Indy NXT has been one for the history books with a podium finish on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course, the best Indy NXT finish for a woman since 2010 (Mann, Kentucky Speedway), and a win from the pole at Road America, making her the first woman to earn a pole on a road or street course, the first woman to win an Indy NXT race on a road or street course and only the third woman to capture victory in series history.
“It’s been a pleasure watching Jamie grow as a driver in our Indy NXT program,” Michael Andretti, CEO and chairman of Andretti Global, said. “The work she put in during the winter after her rookie season is obvious, and we’ve been impressed with the progress she’s made. The Indy NXT field is really competitive this year and what Jamie has been able to do is a testament to the level of skill and potential she has. We believe in rewarding hard work and results and are excited to give her this opportunity. We’re all looking forward to seeing what she can do in September.”
Chadwick currently sits fifth in the championship standings with four races remaining in the season.
