INDIANAPOLIS — Juncos Hollinger Racing and Agustin Canapino have mutually agreed to part ways following one full season together.
In the midst of his second stint with the two-car organization, Canapino is left without a ride as only six races remain in the NTT IndyCar Series season.
Notably, the Argentinian racer was pulled from his driving duties in June at Wisconsin’s Road America following a debacle between Canapino and driver Theo Pourchaire, which involved death threats from Canapino’s fans toward Pourchaire. The two drivers were involved in an on-track incident on the streets of Detroit one race prior.
Canapino’s No. 78 Chevrolet is 23rd in the driver’s standings.
“We commend Agustin for taking the leap into open-wheel racing with us over the last year and a half, not only learning a completely new style of racing from his impressive and storied career, but also moving to the U.S. and learning the language to join our series,” JHR stated in a press release.
“Both Agustin and the team have worked tirelessly to learn, grow, and succeed throughout their time at JHR, and we are extremely proud of what we have achieved together.
“We thank Agustin for his time at Juncos Hollinger Racing and will be cheering him on as he continues his journey.”
No replacement has been named to fill the vacant seat of Canapino’s No. 78.
JHR’s other driver, Romain Grosjean, is 16th in the standings.
