ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — At the start of the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series season, few would have selected Ryan Hunter-Reay as the most likely candidate to win the series championship.
That didn’t stop him from going out and doing it anyway.
Now, with the 2013 season set to begin this weekend with the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, Hunter-Reay enters the IZOD IndyCar Series season with a whole new set of goals.
The biggest one, of course, is defending his series championship.
“We are definitely optimistic,” said Hunter-Reay. “I’m encouraged how well our test went at Barber. That’s a track that we have regularly struggled at. Will (Power) obviously led testing there and we have to close the gap a bit. But I’m very encouraged how everything has been going as a team and we have a good direction heading into St. Pete.”
