INDIANAPOLIS — Ana Beatriz will embark on her first fulltime schedule with the IZOD IndyCar Series this year as the pilot of the No. 24 Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Dallara Honda with sponsorship from Brazilian-based Ipiranga.
“The No. 24 car has special meaning to Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and we are elated to partner with Bia [Beatriz’s nickname] and Ipiranga full time in 2011,” said team co-owner Dennis Reinbold. “Bia is a true professional in and out of the car. We couldn’t think of a more appropriate fit to our organization and all of our partners.”
Ipiranga, the biggest private petroleum and derivates distributor in Brazil, will be the primary sponsor of Beatriz and the No. 24 Dallara Honda during the 2011 season.
Beatriz and Ipiranga joined DRR on a limited basis in 2010, entering four races. Beatriz made her IZOD IndyCar Series debut in Brazil during the opening round of the season on the Streets of Sao Paulo. She also made her Indianapolis 500 debut, starting and finishing 21st.
“I’m definitely thrilled to have my deal done with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and Ipiranga,” said Beatriz. “It’s a dream come true that this has all come together. Last year was important for me to run four races to get adjusted and for this year I feel more prepared than ever.”
Beatriz, who will compete alongside teammate Justin Wilson this year, competed in the Firestone Indy Lights Series in 2008 and 2009. She finished third in points and collected her first Indy Lights victory in 2008. She added a second victory the following season.
“I’m as excited as I’ve ever been. I think this is the best focus we’ve had in years,” said team co-owner Robbie Buhl. “We’ve put ourselves in another great position to have two very competitive entries and we couldn’t be happier. Bia is an exceptional driver and we are thrilled to have her on board with us.”
Beatriz becomes the third (Danica Patrick, Simona de Silvestro) female driver to commit to a full IZOD IndyCar Series schedule in 2011.
