INDIANAPOLIS – IndyCar officials have placed Verizon IndyCar Series driver Helio Castroneves on probation through June 30, 2014, for an action following the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach on April 13.
Castroneves was found to have violated Rule 9.3.8 (Social Media Policy violation). While the specific reason for the penalty wasn’t stated by IndyCar officials, it is believed to be as a result of a critical message on Twitter Castroneves posted following the most recent Verizon IndyCar Series race in Long Beach, Calif.
In the tweet, Castroneves was critical of series officials for a non-call on what Castroneves believed should have been a penalty. A few moments after posting it, the tweet was removed from his account.
Castroneves may contest the imposition of the penalty pursuant to the procedures and timelines detailed in the review and appeal procedures of the Verizon IndyCar Series rulebook.
