INDIANAPOLIS — Takuma Sato, a veteran of seven Formula One seasons, and 24-year-old IZOD IndyCar Series veteran E.J. Viso will team as drivers for the KV Racing Technology IZOD IndyCar Series team this year.
Sato began his Formula One career in 2002 with Jordan-Honda. He spent time with the British American Racing (BAR)-Honda F-1 squad from 2003 to 2005. He spent his last three years in Formula One with Super Aguri, which folded after four races in 2008.
“We are very excited to have been able to put this deal together with Takuma and his group,” said Jimmy Vasser, who co-owns the team with Kevin Kalkhoven. “I can’t wait to see what I know will be an extremely fast pace by Taku on the road courses and look forward to working with him and getting him up to speed on the ovals.”
Viso, who tested for the team in mid February, will drive the No. 8 entry.
Viso drove the best two IndyCar Series seasons for HVM Racing with a best finish of fourth at St. Petersburg, Fla., in 2008.
– Former Andretti Autosport driver Hideki Mutoh has found a new home in the IZOD IndyCar Series.
Mutoh will switch to New-man/Haas/Lanigan Racing this year after spending the last two years with Andretti.
