Dave Furst Named IndyCar VP Of Communications

MADISON, Ill. – Popular television sports director Dave Furst of WRTV Channel 6 in Indianapolis has been named IndyCar Vice President of Communications.

Furst has been the station since 1997, first as a sports reporter and in 2002 as sports director.

IndyCar released a statement Friday morning:

“We’re excited to add Dave’s valuable experience, strong work ethic and tremendous passion for IndyCar racing to our team. We expect his contributions and leadership will be extremely beneficial as we work to raise the profiles of our drivers and teams and generate even more momentum for the NTT IndyCar Series.”

The Newburgh, Ind., native attended his first Indianapolis 500 in 1979. He is an Indiana University graduate who has previously worked in Evansville, Ind.; Louisville, Ky.; Raleigh, N.C., and Huntington, W.Va., before joining WRTV in Indianapolis.

During his 23-year-career at the Indianapolis station, Furst has won numerous awards, including 23 Emmys. Many of those are for the station’s popular Trackside 6 coverage from Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Furst is also part of the Pennzoil IndyCar Radio Network, a position that started at Watkins Glen in 2008.
