Munoz Wires Indy Lights Finale

FONTANA, Calif. – Carlos Munoz scored his second Firestone Indy Lights Series victory of the year in a wire-to-wire effort Saturday at Auto Club Speedway.

Munoz started second and took the lead on the opening lap. He was never seriously challenged throughout the 50-lap event that saw one caution for five laps.

“It was a very nice race today from the beginning to end. I had a fantastic car and have to thank my Andretti Autosport crew for that. They have worked very hard this whole weekend,” Munoz said after his second victory of the year. “It is great to finish the season with a win. I think this has been a pretty good year of learning. I have to thank my family, all of my sponsors and Colombia for their support. It is unfortunate what happened to Sebastian (Saavedra) on the first lap because we could have had a really nice race between us.”

David Ostella charged from eighth on the starting grid to finish second at the two-mile oval. Esteban Guerrieri, Tristan Vautier and Victor Carbone completed the top five.

Sebastian Saavedra qualified on the pole but failed to complete a lap after suffering a mechanical failure.

Vautier claimed the series championship and thus earned a scholarship that will help him make his IZOD IndyCar Series debut next year. He won the Star Mazda Championship Series title last year.
