SPARTA, Ky. — Team Moore Racing announced Star Mazda Championship Series driver Gustavo Menezes completed his rookie test for the Firestone Indy Lights Series with the team at Kentucky Speedway on Thursday.
The 17-year-old is currently competing in his second year of Star Mazda and looks to make the leap to Firestone Indy Lights as soon as Fontana in September.
“First of all, I would really like to thank the guys at Team Moore Racing for putting together the test. They really worked hard on dialing down the car and helped me make my transition into the Firestone Indy Lights car flawless. The car was very different from a Star Mazda to drive but with the help of the engineers and driver coach, Pancho Carter, I was able to adapt and get up to speed pretty quickly. Overall, I had a great first day in the car and learned a lot of stuff that may benefit me in the near future,” said Menezes.
Team co-owner Mark Moore said Menezes was a pleasure to work with during Thursday’s test session.
“Gustavo was a real pleasure for the whole team to work with,” Moore said. “He handled himself as a seasoned professional through all the test requirements by the team. Once again Star Mazda is proving to be an excellent training ground for young drivers to move up into our series.”
