MONTEREY, Calif. – Jack Hawksworth will start from the pole of the first of two Star Mazda Championship Series events at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Saturday.
Despite having been topped on the time sheets in all the practice sessions leading up to Friday’s qualifying session for race one, when it really mattered, Hawksworth dug deep and scored his record 10th PEAK Performance Pole Award of the 2012 season.
His lap of 1:21.631 was not only the quickest Star Mazda time, but the quickest lap turned by every class of car running at the historic venue this weekend.
“I’m very happy with the pole here at this beautiful track, but it’s just another step we have to take,” said Hawksworth. “There are a lot of things that could be going through my mind right now if I let them, but the Pelfrey team has worked incredibly hard to give me the tools to do this job, and I intend to see it through. The competition has been tough all season and gets tougher every time we’re on track, so for me its head down and nose to the grindstone.”
Sage Karam was second fastest, followed by Petri Suvanto, Gabby Chaves and Connor De Phillippi.
