EDMONTON, Alberta — The IZOD IndyCar Series will return Edmonton City Centre Airport in 2011 after all.
Octane Motorsport Events Inc., a subsidiary of Octane Racing Group Inc. announced Tuesday it had completed necessary negotiations with the City of Edmonton and will act as promoter of the July 22-24 event, the third under IndyCar sanction at the track.
“We are extremely glad to finally be able to officially invite racing fans to gather in Edmonton next July 22, 23 and 24. It is now a reality; the popular Edmonton Indy is back on the IndyCar Series calendar. While it may has taken more time than expected to confirm its return, our group has all intentions to use the next seven months to offer to Edmontonians and Western Canadians the very best motorsports spectacle they’ve seen since 2005 in Alberta’s Capital City,” said François Dumontier, president of Octane Motorsport Events Inc.
A Canadian company established in Montréal, Octane Racing Group Inc. is the promoter of the Formula One Canadian Grand Prix.
IZOD IndyCar Series officials confirmed the announcement Wednesday.
