SINGAPORE — Sebastian Vettel made only one run during the third and final qualifying session Saturday for the Singtel Singapore Grand Prix, but that run was good enough to win the pole for Sunday’s race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

It will be Vettel’s fifth pole start of the season.

The three-time defending world champion drove his Red Bull machine to a lap of one minute and 42.841 seconds to claim the top spot over Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg, who turned in a lap of one minute and 42.932 seconds.

Romain Grosjean qualified third for Lotus-Renault, while Vettel’s Red Bull teammate, Mark Webber, was fourth.

Lewis Hamilton rounded out the top five in the second Mercedes Formula One machine.
