Representatives of seven-time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher have confirmed that he is in critical condition after undergoing brain surgery following a skiing accident in the French Alps on Sunday.
Schumacher, who retired a second time after the 2012 Formula One season, was out skiing on unmarked slopes when he fell and his head struck a rock. He was found within minutes and transported to University Hospital Center of Grenoble following the incident, where he underwent emergency surgery. Schumacher is now in a medically induced coma following the surgery.
Reports indicate the 44-year-old German was skiing at the French resort Meribel when the incident occurred at just after 11 a.m. local time.
