SILVERSTONE, England – Nico Rosberg and Mercedes led the field during Friday’s practice sessions at the Silverstone Circuit, narrowly edging the Red Bull Racing duo of former British Grand Prix winners Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel.
Rosberg recorded a lap of 1:32.248 to slip ahead of Webber (1:32.547) and Vettel (1:32.680), with local heroes Paul di Resta for Force India and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton chasing them with 1:32.832 and 1:32.911 respectively.
The session was held on a drying track which was slippery to begin with, with Ferrari’s Felipe Massa spinning exiting Stowe corner after 25 minutes. He damaged the front suspension of his car as he slid across the road into a tire wall, and was classified in 22nd and last place on the strength of his previous best lap of 1:43.466.
There were few other incidents, however, as everyone focused on running on the hard and medium Pirelli tires.
Toro Rosso’s Daniel Ricciardo set the pace in a rain-hit first practice session, clocking in at 1:54.249.
