MONACO – Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso split the first two practice sessions Thursday at the Circuit de Monaco ahead of Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix.
Hamilton had the fastest time of the day during the opening practice session, timing in with a fast lap of 1:18.271. Alonso led the second practice session, which was disrupted early by a rain storm. Alonso’s time of 1:18.482 was enough to give him the top spot on the charts during the second session ahead of Hamilton.
Nico Rosberg was second fastest in the opening practice, followed by Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo, Alonso and defending World Champion Sebastian Vettel. Following Alonso and Hamilton in the second practice were Vettel, the Toro Rosso of Jean-Eric Vergne and the Williams of Valtteri Bottas.
No on-track activity is scheduled for Friday. Teams return to Circuit de Monaco Saturday for a third round of practice followed by qualifying for Sunday’s event.
