Ferrari Penalized For Misuse Of DRS

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Ferrari has been handed a 15,000 euro fine by the Hungarian Grand Prix stewards after Fernando Alonso was found to have misused the Drag Reduction System (DRS) during Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

The FIA’s technical delegate Jo Bauer referred the matter to the stewards because data indicated that Alonso had activated the DRS on three occasions when he was not within one second of the car in front at the DRS detection point as required by the regulations.

However, the stewards decided that an error by the team was to blame for the Spaniard using the system at the wrong time, and that any advantage gained was likely negligible.
