Female F-1 Driver Found Dead

Maria De Villota, the reserve Formula One racing driver who lost her right eye in a crash in July, has been found dead in a hotel room in Seville, Spain.

The 33-year-old Spanish driver is a former World Touring Car driver and the daughter of former Formula One racer Emilio De Villota.

De Villota got her first Formula One test in 2011 and was testing for Marussia in July when she crashed and suffered head and facial injuries.

“Dear friends: Maria is gone. She had to go to heaven with all of the angels,” read a statement from the family.
