Voss — More Than A Career Milestone

MILAN, Mich. — Dillon Voss’ first Mountain Motor Pro Stock victory at the IHRA Outlaw Pro Mod Nationals wasn’t just a milestone in his racing career, it was a win that carried deep personal meaning.

“We ran up here two weeks ago, so we knew we had a good car,” Voss said. “I drove great all weekend, drove great last weekend, and we just were able to put all the pieces together this time and continue our string of good runs. I think we’ve made 15 or 16 runs — we haven’t had an aborted run yet.”

The victory was Voss’ first in the class and his first in five years.

“It’s not really how I wanted to win it – (John Montecalvo) Monty timed out — but man, I got a lot of guys to thank for this win. I’m just real happy right now.”

The moment was also emotional for the Florida driver, who dedicated the win to his late grandparents.

“I lost my grandparents two years ago, and we haven’t been able to win one since,” Voss said. “My grandpa was always really proud of my brother and me’s endeavor into this. We won a lot in Pro 632, and he was able to be here for that, and this one’s for him for sure.”

On race day, Voss credited both his team and the IHRA track crew for giving him confidence behind the wheel.

“First round, it was hot, but IHRA honestly has done a phenomenal job,” Voss added. “The track conditions all year have been phenomenal. Columbus was a 135-degree racetrack, and it was still great. That really instills confidence in me as a driver to be able to do my job to perfection.”

Voss says success in Mountain Motor Pro Stock means pushing hard every round. “This is absolutely the hardest class I’ve ever ran to try to get a win in. You can’t go up to the starting line and lay up and try to go slow. You’ve got to go the best you can every run and try to get the laundry out.”

His twin brother, Cory, serves as crew chief, with their father building engines and their uncle handling car maintenance, making the win a true family achievement.

“It’s really a family atmosphere. That’s why it makes it emotional, because dad’s crying (at the top end), my brother’s crying down there. It’s something special for sure.”

Voss closed by thanking his wife, who stayed home with their child during the weekend, and the partners who keep their program moving forward: Coble Enterprises, LIQUI MOLY, Voss Wheelie Bars, Voss Racing Engines, Right Trailers, and Redmond Builders.
