INDIANAPOLIS — A new drag racing sanctioning body has been born.
The X-Treme Drag Racing League, which was formed in early December after the Kenny Nowling, who founded the ADRL, reacquired it in late November.
The XDRL, which is owned by MP Motorsports LLC, which consists of Jeff Mitchell, David Hubbard and Larry Pearce, has quickly signed up sponsors and released a nine-race schedule. The XDRL is made up of many of the same players that made ADRL a success in recent seasons and hopes to utilize nine different racing classes — including Pro Extreme and Pro Nitrous — in its eighth-mile drag races.
“We realize we had four groups to make happy — racers, sponsors, tracks and fans,” said Mitchell in making the announcement Saturday at the International Motorsports Industry Show. “Our goal is to put the best of the best of these together and provide a world-class stage to perform on.”
“A week ago, not planning to form a new sanctioning body,” said Hubbard. “We were left with uncertainty and a decision regarding where to complete. Sponsors and competitors encouraged us to start a new drag racing league. Our intention was never to divide the racers and make them decide when and where to compete, instead. We want to provide a professional, safe, family oriented environment for everyone that attends an XDRL race.
“All of this was accomplished in an incredibly short period of time.”
The XDRL will kick off its campaign April 6-7 at Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park and wrap it up Oct. 25-26 at zMAX Dragway in Concord. N.C.
