POMONA, Calif. — Austin Prock’s magical season became even sweeter during the first round of Sunday’s In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals at Pomona Dragstrip.
From the left lane, Prock’s championship-winning Funny Car streaked down the race track with a 3.828 ET at 341.68 mph. He became the first driver to break the 340 mph barrier in an NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series event.

Bob Tasca III surpassed 340 mph during the PRO Superstar Shootout in February at Bradenton (Fla.) Motorsports Park. His pass was also at 341.68 mph.
“To run 3.80 last night in this Chevrolet Camaro and then back it up with 341, it’s a testament to how great this team is,” Prock began. “Right when you think we’re done, we just keep one-upping everyone. It’s just such a fun race car to drive. I’m so proud of my family, so proud of this team. What a great opportunity.”
To the delight of a packed grandstands, Prock was wheeled back on the back of a pickup truck holding up a 340 mph speed limit sign.
“I’m getting pretty comfortable in this Chevrolet,” Prock said. “I saw the scoreboard the last two runs, so, definitely catching up to this Funny Car, gonna keep on getting better and better.”
Prock will face J.R. Todd in the second round.
