YPSILANTI, Mich. — Kalitta Motorsports will join the chorus of professional organizations supporting breast cancer awareness through the month of October, beginning this weekend at the Texas NHRA FallNationals.
The 2018 Funny Car world champion J.R. Todd will campaign a pink DHL Toyota GR Supra Funny Car while Shawn Langdon will fly the pink-highlighted livery of CMR Construction and Roofing. For the final two national events of the Countdown to the Championship, both Todd and Langdon will compete for the Funny Car and Top Fuel world championships in pink DHL race cars.
In addition to supporting breast cancer awareness in October, the teams will be raising awareness for men’s health in November with a unique logo on each DHL race car.
“This is an important cause to support and raise awareness for, not just in the month of October, but throughout the year,” said Todd, a 10-time Funny Car national event winner. “Breast cancer affects so many people every year that we just want to do our part to help support those that are battling and help support the organizations that are working on a cure. It is cool that we get to do this with both DHL and CMR Construction and Roofing.”
By far, the most popular and effective method of garnering attention is the pink race car and Kalitta Motorsports is excited be racing a variety of 11,000 horsepower race cars this year during the final three races of the NHRA playoffs.
“We have a lot of female fans and women that work throughout our sport on pit crews and as support staff and we just want to let everyone that is affected cancer that we support them and their families,” Langdon said. “My dad survived a fight with liver cancer and thankfully he is still coming out to the races and getting to enjoy life. We know this is one small way we can help support people that are fighting breast cancer and I really appreciate the efforts of DHL and CMR for this cause.”
“Our hope is that by making a powerful statement about breast cancer awareness month through our DHL-branded pink cars, we can inspire people to take preventative action against this disease that affects millions each year,” said Chet Paul, head of commercial for DHL Express U.S. “Nothing is more important than your health, which is why we do whatever we can to not only raise awareness to help fight the disease, but to also make healthcare solutions more accessible through our global shipping and logistics expertise.”
Fans will get their first chance to see Todd and Langdon’s pink race cars on Friday, Oct. 14, during the Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at Texas Motorplex.
