In the midst of a title fight, three-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Antron Brown is as cool as can be headed to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the penultimate race of the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season.
“It’s Vegas, we’ve got nothing to lose, and we’re looking forward to having a fun time this weekend,” Brown said.
For a driver in the heat of battle with no room for error, Brown’s “we’ve got nothing to lose,” remark sends a signal of strong confidence.
Brown, who trails Justin Ashley by 44 points with two races remaining, kicked off the Countdown to the Championship by winning consecutive races at Pennsylvania’s Maple Grove Raceway and North Carolina’s zMAX Dragway.
Since then, title rival Ashley scored a crucial win at the series’ last stop at Texas Motorplex during the Texas Fall Nationals while Brown has faltered during the two most recent rounds of the Countdown.
Notably, Brown lost to Ashley in the first round at the Stampede of Speed in Texas.
The owner-driver of AB Motorsports, however, has won at The Strip six times, including twice at the annual NHRA Nevada Nationals. Currently at 79 career victories (63 in Top Fuel, 16 in Pro Stock Motorcycle), Brown is seeking his 80th career NHRA Wally.
For Brown, he and his team’s focus is on qualifying and from there, “let the chips fall where they fall.”
