GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Josh Hart will make the jump from A Fuel Dragster to Top Fuel Dragster this weekend at the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals.
Hart will be driving the Bob Vandergriff Racing Top Fuel Dragster, sponsored by Burnyzz Speed Shop.
“Gainesville Raceway is a special place for me. It’s my hometown track and I have achieved every licensing pass there. I’m excited to make my Top Fuel debut in Gainesville,” said Hart. “The hometown crowd seems to support the local underdog. I hope to make them proud.”
Hart has had a successful career in the Top Alcohol category, winning 15 Wallys so far.
Just last weekend, Hart took home the win in Top Alcohol Dragster at the Division 2 ‘Baby Gators’ held at Gainesville Raceway.
Coaching Hart on his Top Fuel journey has been BVR team owner Bob Vandergriff.
“Bob has taught me so much over the past year; everything from professionalism and patience even when 30,000 people are watching. And also to control your emotions and drive the wheels off this race car,” said Hart.
“It’s going to be great to see Josh behind the wheel of a BVR Top Fuel dragster. He looked very comfortable in the race car during Monday testing after the Phoenix race running 3.74 and 3.77 at 328 mph,” said Vandergriff. “He’s a multi-time national event winner with a couple of Indy wins to his credit in his A Fuel dragster, and I can see why watching him drive our car. I expect his transition into Top Fuel to be very smooth and can see him adding a Top Fuel Wally to his resume very soon.”
Hart plans to compete at eight NHRA races in 2020 in the BVR dragster.
“I’m so lucky to have Ron Douglas and the crew at BVR and want to thank them for giving me a fast and consistent ride,” Hart added. “I also want thank my sponsors who have been with me almost 9 years and helped me get here: HLC Trucking who and OWV Excavating.”
