WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The International Hot Rod Ass’n and Onawa Dragway have entered into a multi-year sanctioning agreement.
Onawa (Iowa) Dragway is 10 miles from the Nebraska border, right across the Missouri River. It is a newer facility opened in August 2018 to a sold-out crowd and a car count of over 150. Located on the site of a former airport, it boasts a state-of a eighth-mile drag strip.
The Western Iowa facility participated in the IHRA Midwest Summit Team Finals and has embraced the IHRA Summit SuperSeries. Chuck Collins (Top), Jack Underwood (Mod) and Taylor Hansen (Junior) were IHRA Summit SuperSeries track champions in 2019.
The track also hosts the Midwest Index Series.
There are a number of special events, including Summer Madness, formerly Thunder on the Prairie, and the Midwest Bash.
“Onawa Dragway has already proven the ‘if you build it, they will come’ philosophy in late 2019,” IHRA Division Director Jon O’Neal said. “There have been big steps to get the facility operating and the racers have done a great job representing the International Hot Rod Association over these past couple of years. I’m excited to see where new lessees and operators Dan and Judy Wilson take the facility for years to come.”
