NORFOLK, Neb. — Ricky Thornton Jr. recovered from a mistake to win Tuesday night’s Elkhorn 100 XR Super Series dirt late model race at Off Road Speedway.
Thornton continued his red-hot racing season, earning $100,000 for his 22nd victory of the season aboard the No. 20rt late model.
Thornton stumbled in lapped traffic on lap 64, handing the point to Bobby Pierce. But Thornton never gave up and ran down Pierce to take the lead on lap 81.
He led the rest of the distance and beat Pierce to the checkered flag by 1.114 seconds.
Kyle Bronson, Brandon Sheppard and Daulton Wilson rounded out the top five.
Twenty-eight cars were on hand for the event and Pierce leads Hudson O’Neal by 32 points in the race for the XR Super Series title.
