YORK HAVEN, Pa. – Barry Klinedinst Motorsports and six-time regional series champion Jason Covert have had a memorable eight year run together.
Long time car owner of the famed Red Wing Shoes sponsored, yellow and red No. 43A, Barry Klinedinst, has announced his retirement as a car owner beginning at the end of the 2013 racing season. The announcement comes after Jason Covert and the BK Motorsports team captured the Three State Flyers event at Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway on Aug 31.
“Barry gave me an opportunity of a lifetime when he asked me to drive his car,” driver Jason Covert said. “The reputation Barry and that car has throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region is astounding and for us to continue that tradition during my time in the car has been awesome.”
Klinedinst has been involved in motorsports for over 50 years and turned a virtually unknown driver in Covert into a household name in the dirt late model community.
“Driving the BK Motorsports No. 43A for the past eight years has done wonders for my racing career,” Covert said. “It’s been such a privilege and an honor to drive for Barry for as long as I have. I can’t thank him and the entire BK Motorsports team for all they’ve done the past eight years.
“We’ve won a lot of races together the past eight years, we’ve won championships in six of the eight years together,” said Covert. “We’ve won MACS (Mid-Atlantic Championship Series), Three State Flyers Series, UFo (Unified Force Race Championship), Lucas (Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series) and Speedweek (Appalachian Mountain Speedweek) races, we’ve had a lot of success together and it’s all because of Barry and the BK Motorsports team. It’s been a first class organization since the first time I walked into the shop. Barry is a class act and deserves to enjoy his retirement. I wish Barry the best of luck as he finishes this chapter in his life. Again, I can’t thank him enough for the opportunity and everything he has done for me. Hopefully we can finish the 2013 season strong and send Barry out on a high note.”
Klinedinst’s retirement means that Jason Covert will be without a ride for the 2014 season.
