Sheppard & Pierce Top Gateway LMs

ST. LOUIS — Brandon Sheppard and Bobby Pierce each earned $5,000 preliminary feature victories Friday night during the late model portion of the VP Gateway Dirt Nationals inside The Dome at America’s Center.

Sheppard led all 20 laps of the opener, beating fourth-starter Tim McCreadie to the checkered flag. Jason Welshan, Billy Moyer and Jonathan Davenport filled the top five.

The top four finishers in each feature are locked into Saturday night’s $30,000-to-win main event.

Pierce took the lead on when Shannon Babb crashed on lap eight and led the remainder of the distance to win the nightcap, beating Don O’Neal to the checkered flag.

Chad Zobrist, Jeff Herzog and Camaron Marlar rounded out the top five.
