ST. LOUIS – Nick Hoffman raced to yet another modified victory Thursday night at The Dome at America’s Center.
The DIRTcar Nationals modified champion added win No. 40 of the year on Gateway Dirt Nationals preliminary night. He led all 20 laps for the $3,000 score, which came 2.096 seconds ahead of Peyton Taylor and with some inspiration.
“First and foremost, this is for Bundy [Mitchell]. He had a massive heart attack yesterday,” Hoffman said in victory lane. “He’s done a lot for me in my career. I’ve been really thinking about all of them. Hopefully we can get one Saturday too.”
Hoffman’s win rate is now 71 percent in the UMP-style modified. He finished second in the midget Thursday night and will climb aboard a late model Friday before aiming for another big modified victory Saturday.
“I would trade all 40 of those wins to win Saturday night here,” Hoffman said. “I want the trophy so bad. It’d complete the collection at the house.”
