KOKOMO, Ind. — Devin Moran won Monday night’s XR Super Series late model main event at Kokomo Speedway, but it wasn’t without some controversy.
Moran swept past Ryan Gustin exiting the fourth turn and heading to the checkered flag to snag his first victory in the series and earn the $15,000 top prize.
However, Moran was involved in a late-race tussle for the lead with Hudson O’Neal that saw O’Neal disqualified.
Moran led the first 43 laps before O’Neal muscled his way past on a lap-44 restart. Moran battled back on another restart on lap 47 and as Moran slid past the two cars made contact.
Moran went on to edge Gustin for the victory, while O’Neal finished sixth. But O’Neal drove into Moran’s car in the pit area after the race and was disqualified.
Bobby Pierce finished third, with Tyler Erb and Jason Feger completed the top five.
Garrett Alberson was the fast qualifier for the 18-car field with a lap of 12.811 seconds.
The finish:
Devin Moran, Ryan Gustin, Bobby Pierce, Tyler Erb, Jason Feger, Daulton Wilson, Clay Harris, Adam Stricker, Brenden Smith, Garrett Alberson, Cody Overton, Joseph Joiner, Ricky Thornton Jr., Tyler Stevens, Ricky Weiss, Frank Heckenast Jr., Luke Anstett, Hudson O’Neal.
