Iron-Man Tour Reveals Sunoco $10,000+ Challenge

SOMERSET, Ky. — Officials with the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series have announced the Sunoco $10,000+ Challenge for the upcoming season.

Races paying $10,000 or more to win will also have a 12-race mini points fund within its own points fund sponsored by Sunoco Race Fuels. The top-five drivers in the Challenge will receive points money, with $5,000 going to the overall champion.

If a driver was to win all 12 races, that driver would earn $151,122, plus $5,000 for winning the Challenge title. If a driver just made every race on that tour and received start money only, that driver would still receive $7,000, plus an additional $500 for attending all 12 races.

Each series champion is already scheduled to receive $5,000, but series promoter Chris Tilley wanted to add more to the series regulars and give them an extra point fund for their support.

The Challenge schedule is made up of races from both Northern and Southern region tours. Total purses and points funds for the Valvoline Late Model & Brucebilt Open Wheel Series are in excess of $1 Million for the upcoming season.

“Our series sponsors mean a lot to us and have stepped up in a huge way this season. With the help of Valvoline and Sunoco we’re able to do more for the racers. In addition to our already announced points funds we have added a third points fund to the two-race tour,” said CT Promotions President Chris Tilley. “This basically rewards series regulars with an additional point fund on the bigger paying races. Some drivers have made intentions to run a lot if not most of both tours so we wanted to be able to help our drivers out.”
