ANTIOCH, Calif. – Bobby Hogge snapped Ethan Dotson’s two-race win streak in the IMCA modified division on the fifth night of action during California IMCA Speedweek Wednesday at Antioch Speedway.
Hogge stormed to the point on the opening lap before the caution flag waved on lap two. He maintained his lead on the restart, but the caution would wave again on lap five to bring the field back to him. He’d continue to lead until the third caution on lap 10, but this time during the restart Dotson began to pressure Hogge.
Dotson didn’t have enough to make the pass on Hogge, with Hogge slipping away from the runner-up. Dotson soon reeled Hogge back in, only for a caution flag on lap 21 to stop the action and set up a late-race dash to the checkered flag.
Hogge hit all his marks perfectly during the restart and held on to claim the victory. Dotson finished second, with Troy Morris III, Kellen Chadwick and Nick Decarlo completing the top-five.
In the companion Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern Sportmod feature, Tyler Bannister was the man to beat. The only thing that slowed him down were three consecutive early caution flags. Once racing got underway, Bannister set a torid pace.
Another caution on lap eight brought the field back to Bannister, who flexed his muscle again by creating a large gap to the rest of the field. Two additional caution flags followed with 10 laps left, but all they did was take traffic out of the equation for Bannister.
With no cars in front of him, Bannister rocketed away from the field during the final restart with eight laps left and cruised to the comfortable victory. Fred Ryland settled for second, followed by Josh Most, Jason Nation and Jason Bannister.
California IMCA Speedweek resumes on Thursday at Petaluma (Calif.) Speedway.
