BEAUMONT, Texas – Iowa native Ryan Gustin was the winningest USMTS driver in 2010 with 16 victories and a runner-up finish in the final points, and the 21 year old kept that momentum going Friday night, earning his third victory in five races this season in the fifth annual USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour Texas Shootout at Golden Triangle Raceway Park.
Starting from the pole position, “The Reaper” kept the competition at the bay for the entire 40-lap distance, defending his spot each time during four mid-race cautions en route to earning his 27th career USMTS triumph, worth $2,000. The victory moved Gustin into sole possession of fourth on the all-time wins list and solidified his seat atop the Southeast Region point standings.
Defending event winner and national champion Jason Hughes trailed Gustin by 1.090 seconds, followed by rookie Keith Foss, Johnny Scott and 17th-starter Shane Herbert.
