Garrett Smith Victorious At Boyd’s Speedway

RINGGOLD, Ga. – Garrett Smith kicked off his season in winning fashion by scoring a victory on Saturday at Georgia’s Boyd’s Speedway.

Competing in the Driver Development class for 602 late models, the 16-year-old Smith was the class of the field throughout the day at the three-eighths-mile clay oval. He set fast time with a 14.817-second lap, won his heat race and then led every lap of the feature after starting from the pole.

“That was a great way to start the year,” said Smith, a Barry Wright Race Cars developmental driver. “I knew we had a great car when we set fast time in qualifying and we were able to back it up all day. We won the heat and then went out and led every lap of the feature. That’s a great way to start our year.

“I have to thank Barry Wright and Barry Wright Race Cars for their support, without them I wouldn’t be able to do this. I also have to thank my family for all of their help. It’s so cool to start out the year in victory lane. Hopefully we can do it again really soon.”

Smith followed up his run on Saturday with another solid performance on Sunday in 602 sportsman competition at Boyd’s Speedway. He started 14th in the feature, racing his way to seventh by the end of the race.

“Garrett had a great weekend down at Boyd’s Speedway,” said Car Chief Pat Sellers. “He was in his own league on Saturday and easily took home the trophy. The car worked perfectly and Garrett drove a flawless race. You can’t ask for more than that. I think that’ll be the first of many trophies we’ll pick up this year.”

Smith will be back in action on Feb. 6-8 during the annual Winter Freeze event at Georgia’s Screven Motor Speedway. He’ll once again be competing in the 602 late model division.
